Results - modified PI intake on NPI heads

Well I was hoping to see a 15RWHP gain, but we didn't see that.

However, we did see a 17RWHP, 14RWTQ gain.

I have some good airflow data logged on my luggable, at a very high sampling rate. I'll be making some graphs to illustrate the changes throughout the RPM range, I expect to see ~9% increase in airflow.

Considering Johnny's car and several others have picked up ~15RWHP by adding the PI cams alone, I think we have a pretty good case here for saying the PI head does not make a bit more power than the NPI.

Impressive. It would be interesting to see what the PI intake/cam swap would do for a 96-98 GT.

well, i've still got my stock 97 heads. wonder if i can get them ported to out-perform my dta pi heads?

a good test would be a set of 96-98 heads ported, and machined for a set of comp .550" lift cams, and that new foxlake intake (or at least the svo intake)

so that means JL hit the 250rwhp mark? Congrats guys, thats great. What is the shape of the graph like? No more flat-lining?

I wonder what adding some compression to make his car to equal the headswapped cars would do... not to mention that he's still running PI cams. I think I see a set of Comp Cams heading to TX soon, lol.

And for the last time - If your Mustang is not a 94-5, you do NOT have an AODE. They haven't made one in twelve years.

No more flat-lining-the curve looks alot like Mike V's curve...I'll have all the data together early next week-the dyno shop's printer was out of ink,and I've got some graphing to do on the logging that KD got.
It was a Mustang dyno-so not sure what it makes on a dynojet...but it picked up 17rwhp,and 14 ft-lbs...It'll go on a dynojet as soon as I get another free weekend.
It pulls damned hard up through the revs now too...if it weren't raining-we would have taken it to the track tonight.

Wow thats great, I've always wondered what the individual PI components were worth. Looks like we have a pretty good indication now. Thanks for the hard work guys.

Thumbs up

good job JL and Kdanner i was thinking there would be about 10-15 rwhp but its more and here we go i dont see all the PI guys talking smack no more this NPI intake is a big restriction i can see us NPI guys with a PI intake or svo or fox lake intake and some different cams being in the 270+rwhp
so now its a matter or what you want to go with on this birds and stangs weather you want to keep the c/r the same or go with PI and have a higher c/r.

Exactly what kind of modifications were done to that intake? As far as I see it now.......PI parts are worth:

cams - 12-14rwhp
modified intake - 14-17rwhp
heads for higher compression - 8-10hp (???)

All that would add up to the 40-50 or so hp us 96-98 guys see when we swap heads. Anybody have dyno results of a set of comp cams on 96-98 heads? That would be awesome to see with the modded PI intake.

The ports were matched to the NPI style port.

Exactly how was this done though? I thought the PI ports were larger than non-pi!?!?! I think I am confused, sorry for the lack of knowledge.

I don't have the .550" lift, but I have the .500" lift 102200 Compcams grind. Without a tune and with a badly slipping TC I pulled 251rwhp, with the stock, corked NPI intake. Jerry is tuning my car up in Atlanta and I should have some more accurate numbers tomorrow or Monday...

And the SVO intake is on the way, hopefully in a couple of weeks, we'll have an answer..

Whooomp! -there it is...

Great work Kris & Johnny, both you guyz!!!......

Now--- just get out a little 'maching-n-tooling' set-up rigged up maybe in Kris's shop for them bad-boyz, put a sticker price on it ---and go to town and maybe turn a 'buck-or-two' from it --like the Big Dawgs do it in Chi-(cha-ching) Town!!! LOL

And 'as has been said', -this is STILL w/the stock'sh CR so 'all' these apples in this crate of course still have some slight coloring-n-ripening differences in their Thanksgiving American as "apple-pie" desert dishes.

I'd say even now -that's around 270'sh+ at the wheels (peak) with a 10.5'sh CR if it were able to be tested. Plus all the flat-n-fat flow curve underneath it to puch that mo-fo'n sled down the 1/4 like some lightweight skeeter! Great work!

Side-thought: And not to cross thoughts here, but also to place credit-where credit is due here too as I must--- I don't know if anyone caught what my good buddie, Eric did down here at my home track (M.I.R.) just yesterday with only ( his last Dyno #'s) power-levels in the 230's in his Birdie! For he gets a drink "Toast!" from me also.

Thanks guys for all this good 'tech.' It will be, I'm sure, usefull and played into by quite a few more from all this I'm sure.

Peace out-

BullittBird ~Mike V.

Kdanner, would you at all be interested in making a couple of these to sell based on the 02+ intake design with the aluminum crossover? I would be interested.
