C4 overhaul. Need input.

Trans is out right now and I'm considering a trans brake and converter if nothing too expensive is wrong with it. The fluid had some metal shavings in it so it's being stripped down to see what and if anything is wrong.

Proformance transmissions where I got it from says a brake won't make the car any faster, but will make it more consistant. I can't foot brake any higher than 1500 or else the car will move forward so I can't give it much throttle so my boost is low off the line. I would think having it wide open at 3,400 RPM with a brake and leaving like that would leave MUCH harder, but apparently I'm wrong?

The only other way to make it leave harder is to loosen the converter even more, BUT the car is already struggling on the big end as it is. The car SHOULD be trapping 140, but instead averages about 133.

My original idea was to tighten the converter a few hundred RPM and put in a trans brake to take care of the problems at both ends, but am being talked out of it. Second opinions?

Probably should have gave a little more info on the car, so I put it in the signature.

I don't see why a brake wouldn't make it faster, a harder launch equals a better 60. A better 60 equals a better run. Might want to look at the combination of the converter more than the stall.
A 9 inch unit with neutral pitch and the 073 stator that has a good sprag assembly will give it great torque multiplication and better mph. That or a 9.5 inch unit with the 082 stator and the high stall pump.

Transbrake will make it faster, harder launch and better 60 will make a lot of difference
From my own experience.
