I own a 98 ZX-2 and I used to try to dink around with it. But it became painfully obvious that the aftermarket was geared towards the Focus?? I just don't understand why Ford doesn't put the kibosh to the ZX-2? probably not the right forum but just kind of a personal question I have. One more thing..........I have read numerous articles that a ZX-2 with adj. timing gears and a few other small bolt ons will smoke the SVT Focus..any truth to that?

thanks

Nope no truth to it at all, The SVT will lay down 150HP to the wheels stock

There are many things for the ZX2 we have a complete turbo kit ,We have the Ford Racing intake so it will work,Complete engines Etc

I used to frequent ZX2.com awhile back. I love my little scort..but damn..it is expensive to make 4 cylinders go fast!! I can buy a set of CNC ported heads for my Mustang for the same price as ONE 2.0 head!! Don't get me wrong..I have owned my ZX-2 longer than most.....(July of 98)..it just turned into a money per HP thing with me.

my first new car was one of the original ZX2's back in 1997. it was one of the first few hundred to have the sport package. it was a great car for what i needed....

but anyway. there is no Focus coupe. so that's why ford has kept it around. i believe Ford is working on a Focus coupe for the redesign, but i'm not %100.

i know a few people hit 15.7ish in stock ZX2's. i think it could be possible for a modded ZX2 to edge out a SVTF. the ZX2's weigh a few hundred pounds less, right? i haven't paid too much attention to the aftermarket of either the ZX2 or the Focus since i spend most of my time/money on my Mustang. so i may be talking out my ass. but hopefully not.

personnaly .. i thought that the zx2 had been replaced by the focus.. since here (canada), they stopped selling the zx2 in 99 or 00 and we got the focus in 00.. but then i noticed that you guys still have down in the states.. I always thought that was why they stopped selling them here (actually i thought they had stopped making them, period)

There is a focus coupe, my Tia Maria has one.

And they still make the ZX2, it replaced the Escort (they just dropped the escort part).

Mine has 127,000 miles on it. i just replaced the o2 sensor and now I'm getting over 30mpg. I can't complain. Its pretty weak on the power side but it definintly has surprised more than one person.

Even after the Focus came out, Ford was selling 100,000-130,000 ZX2's a year without advertising them. THe car sells itself and Ford makes a good profit off of it. Why nto keep it around?

Actually it is true. My '00 ZX2 S/R with a header, UDP, and adjustable cam gears put down 130+ HP at the wheels and ran consistent 15.1's in the 1/4 on street tires. Some of the regulars at teamzx2.com's message bards are running 14's with just bolt ons in regualr (non S/R) ZX2's.

The ZX2 weighs somewhere around 300-400 lbs less than the SVT Focus, so the difference in power is made up for by the difference in weight. Stock 5 speed ZX2's can run 15.7's and I've seen stock S/R's run 15.5's and 15.4's.
