View Full Version : Stock Fuel system sufficient for a 100 shot?

Will the stock 19# injectors and fuel pump on my 2000 GT be adequate enough for a 100 shot. If it matters, I will be running an NX EFI kit. If necessary, what changes would you recommend? I want to make sure I run as safe as possible.

Thanks.

Yes, it's more than sufficient. I dynoed rich on my 100 shot. I even ran a 150 shot on the stock fuel system without any problems whatsoever. The spark plugs are key. Just don't spray on platinums and you'll be fine. I'd suggest AWSF-22Cs to spray a 100 shot. Randy can hook you up in the parts forum.

You will be fine I used the stock pump all summer and never had any trouble . I had one problem and thought it was the fuel pump but is wasnt it was the NX selonoid it got dirt in it and stuck open . Take it from me get a nitrous fuel filter because stuff can get past the stock filter and damage the fuel selonoid . If you have any trouble with the install PM me and I'll help its realy easy !

I would suggest you get it dno tuned after the install. While the pump may be able to support the horsepower you have to pull from the fuel rail. On the dyno you will see a momentary 'spike' to a lean condition as the fuel selonid pulls from the rail. While not too bad with the 100 shot the 150 shot is very noticable.

If it was me, I already ran the NX kit, I would still look into a better fuel pump(03 cobra) and possibly 24 lb injectors. While this may be too much at the moment its better than taxing the stock pump and running 100% duty cycle on the injectors.

Install is a piece of cake. Took me about 8 hours including hiding everything. I hate when wires are all over the place, very clean install. Plus custom switches. Need any help, Ill be there for you

I have been running an NX kit on a 99 Cobra for two years. You should use the GenX2 package as well. Install the low fuel pressure shut off switch but you will have to set it at about 30 psi or back it out two turns from the way you get it. If you don't, the switch will cycle the nitrous system on and off as the fuel pressure swings.

AWSF-22C Motorcraft or NGK TR6 plugs are fine. You don't need to retard the timing any from stock. Just make sure you aren't running any chip or anything like that that may also have your timing increased from stock. That is a no-no on the juice.

Be very careful when you remove the Schraeder valve from the fuel rail. Ford uses some hardening thread dope on the threads that results in some crumbs when you change it. Try to get them out.

Use a window switch set to come on at no less than 3000 rpm and turn it off at 5800 or so on a GT.

Install the 50 hp jets and go check it out. Only make a couple of pulls, then pull the nitrous and fuel jets and check them both for trash. It doesn't take much to clog either jet.

Then try the 75 hp jets and see how it runs. That should feel very good. Then check the plugs and make sure none look like the cylinder has been running hot. If everything is OK, go to the dyno and run it on the 75 hp shot and see what the air fuel ratio is.

It should be between 12 and 12.5:1. If it is there or richer, go to the 100 hp jets and check it again. If it is too lean, go up one or two sizes in the fuel jet.

Make sure your bottle pressure is at 1000 psi on the dyno, and then always run the car on the juice at 1000 psi from now on.

I've seen 4 different mustangs spray on the dyno, and none of them had the lean spike. The oldest car was an 01, and the other 3 were 03's. And 2 of them were spraying a 150 shot. I guess this is like alot of other things, some cars do it, some don't. I wired my FPSS up a little different, I got it after the fuel solenoid, so it has to have fuel past the solenoid before the nitrous will energize, and it makes it a little safer in case you do lose FP. Of course it don't help when the damn fuel line collapses! :doh

I appreciate all the input guys.

The returnless fuel pressure controls on the 99 up Mustangs are a problem when you run a nitrous system. The stock system wasn't designed to handle step changes in fuel demand created by a solenoid opening and then closing during shifts.

If you datalog the fuel pressure, air fuel ratio, and rpm during a run at the drag strip, you will see the fuel pressure all over the place with the stock system.

It is borderline on a 150 shot, believe me, even with an '03 pump and a eFPC and a mechanical regulator and return line. I am changing mine up to operate the pump off the battery when the nitrous system is armed so that the mechanical regulator can take the swings and take the computer out of the picture.

No window switch spraying out of the hole in a automatic :chairshot Much like you did all season.
