The SVT Focus has been a challenge to get good control of.
Below are two images of WOT dyno runs in an SVT Focus. These are both made with the stock files. The X-axis is engine RPM and the left axis is spark delivered to the engine. These runs were made on two different cars at different times, different dynos.

I cannot answer why the spark has the up and down look, nor can I answer why the average of the curve doesn’t just rise with RPM like a normal N/A car would do. I do know that this didn’t seem right and we set out to fix this.
At first we really didn’t think that we were really monitoring spark, we thought that maybe we were looking at something else, but after more investigation, we found that those traces above are actual spark delivered to the motor.
After quite a bit of effort we did find out what was going on and now our SVT Focus spark curve looks like this.

While the actual values of spark at that given RPM will certainly be different once we finish optimizing this setup, it clearly has a much more normal looking curve. The car didn’t pick up a huge amount of peak HP or TQ, but at part throttle and even WOT, the car drives much smoother.
Over the next few weeks we will gather some more data on this car showing areas where improvements were made.
