The SVT Focus has been a challenge to get good control of.

Below are two images of WOT dyno runs in an SVT Focus. These are both made with the stock files. The X-axis is engine RPM and the left axis is spark delivered to the engine. These runs were made on two different cars at different times, different dynos.

I cannot answer why the spark has the up and down look, nor can I answer why the average of the curve doesn’t just rise with RPM like a normal N/A car would do. I do know that this didn’t seem right and we set out to fix this.

At first we really didn’t think that we were really monitoring spark, we thought that maybe we were looking at something else, but after more investigation, we found that those traces above are actual spark delivered to the motor.

After quite a bit of effort we did find out what was going on and now our SVT Focus spark curve looks like this.

While the actual values of spark at that given RPM will certainly be different once we finish optimizing this setup, it clearly has a much more normal looking curve. The car didn’t pick up a huge amount of peak HP or TQ, but at part throttle and even WOT, the car drives much smoother.

Over the next few weeks we will gather some more data on this car showing areas where improvements were made.

I'm interested in having my 03 SVTF tuned. Interesting post!

VERY NICE!! I can't wait till I get that file with that!

Do you attribute it to the VCT at all?

Please Please come out with the software for the SVT!!! I'm aching for it!

That third graph is your SCT corrected graph, by adjusting the spark value files???

SCT Guy...Thanks for being so thorough and not leaving any stone unturned. Good to see that you guys take pride in your work, not just producing a product that works-but could work better. Can't wait to see what your finished product will do for the SVT. :joy: . Please keep us posted as you have been.

It was far more comlicated that just changing the spark values. You could never fix this by doing that. I'm not going to get into what was causing the problem, but it was difficult to fix, but not impossible.

Basically you have no control over spark unless you fix this problem.

Just get it finished (please) i have installed a new sheet metal intake manifold on my turbo SVT and am dying to test this on my car

I am VERY curious to see what it does over the uni-chip

The UNI-chip is just fuel. You can't change IMRC opening point, spark, cam timing. But, you can use what ever you feel accomplishes your goals and meets your needs.

No the uni-chip is fuel and timing ,We are running 18PSI boost and have controle of the timing with no problem but thats it like you said

At the time it was all there was to tune with and it did its job with 313 HP at the wheels and a 12.99 @111 pass in the 1/4 with DOT tires over 6500 miles on it now with the turbo

We feel there is a little more to get with proper tuning and this is why we are interested in getting the GOLD programing ASAP

We kept waiting on Wesley(autologic) to finish his but like most the SVT Focus was not a priority and i am VERY glad to see you working hard on it

Keep up the good work

I figured it would be...so i guess my question is...is this something that we as SCT users would fix...or would it come "pre-adjusted/fixed" somehow? Or maybe I'm just missing the core of the problem all together. Just trying to understand...

I won't tell you what we did to fix it, but it will come in the file to start with, already fixed so you have control like you should.

SCT Guy, thanks again for all your info and help. It seems you weren't aware the SVT Racer package had been shelved as well.

I was really looking forward to this software, and had even had about 4-5 immediate buyers for the SVT because of all your help and information! If only you guys were in So Cal more often, I wouldnt' mind going the reflash route :)
