Just wondering your alls thoughts on the new 05 mustangs suspension
How well does an L arm do over and A arm up front....

And the new 3 link rear.....

Looks kinda like a 4 link only with one upper link in the middle?

Any thoughts on it?

The rear is quite an improvement over previous setup due to the Panhard Bar. Would nicer with a watts link or a real 3-link, but what can you really expect from the factory.

IRS woulda been sweet for the more nimble (less nose-heavy) GT, and stick the the solid rear on the Cobra. Basically make the GT the twisties car and the Cobra the drag car, but I don't make the decisions. Although I guess this really applies more to the current ones since we don't know what the cobra will have.

Not sure yet on the front suspension. But I look forward to putting it through it's paces when the rag top finally comes out next year. :joy:

The rear looks a hell of a lot better than the current Quadra-bind suspension, but I'm sure Ford will do their best to fuck it up.

I'm interested in the front. The rest of the DEW98 cars are really impressive in their handling (drive a Jaguar S-Type to see what I mean). However, the rest of the cars have an SLA front and IRS. I'm waiting until someone can take the measurements off of it and plug it into WinGeo to see how well it works. I'm wondering if it's design is derived from the Focus, since it's now got a real MacPherson design on it instead of the current modified struts.

It's not an M3, but it's a big improvement. I'll wait to see some lap times before I make a final judgement. I'll probably rent one when they start arriving in the rental car fleets and take it to an autocross or opentrack.

 so true... but I'm an optimist and will keep hoping for the best

hmmmm... hadn't thought of that. though they'll probably be V6's. I'd rather check out how the V8s would handle since that's what I'd buy. Even though I'll do most autox/track events in the SVO, I'll still want to take a new '05 out there so she wouldn't feel jealous and left out.

I think the design of the 05 rear is a big leap forward. I am sure it will work far better than the old quadra-bind. There isn't really all that much carry over from the DEW platform that the concept was built on so who knows until we get to drive it but racing around in Ford's Trilogy commercial, they hang the tail out quite often and I didn't notice any wheel hop problems.

I doubt rental fleets will rent GT's with 300 hp......so we may only get to taste the V6 version.

I think the front setup will be just like the current platform for effectiveness but the rear should make a nice improvement. If it is like the setup on my wife's Jeep Liberty, there will be no market for lower control arms as they are welded to the axle tubes....

Anything would be better than what comes stock now but I am just worried about the curb weight. Are they really going to weight 3600 plus? That is going to be hard on tires and it will be interesting to see how wide a tire you can get on this car. The stock GT setups look like 235's... and the suspension reminds me of a 4x4 in ride height.
