I know this doesn't apply to the engine specifically but I have a question for you guys.
My g-friend has a 99 Taurus and the heater core has gone bad. What all is involved in removing the dash on one of these Taurus's. A shop has quoted her about 10 hours to do the job and if we can do it it will save a shit load of money.
Any ideas or concerns?

Truthfully I have no clue but I have a leak on my bird one time and started to take it apart after I was quoted $600 to change the heater core. It took me about 30 seconds to try Bars stop leak and I did and it worked. Some people may not like that stuff but it worked for me.

Well, I dont think hers is leaking. It smelled like radiator fluid inside the car for sometime and now it doesn't even do that. It doesn't provide one bit of heat.
I doubt that stop leak would do anything for us.

Is there a loss of fluid in the resovoir?

Well, about 2 months ago we topped the resevoir off. I just now went out and checked and the thing is basically empty.

I would get a pressure tester and see exactlly where its going then go from there.
