Hi there,
I’ve been thinking about getting a Ford Racing Supercharger http://www.performanceparts.ford.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=5066 and wondered if anyone has tried it. The literature from Ford tells me that with the installation kit http://www.performanceparts.ford.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=5036 , it comes with everything needed to run. Is that true?

If you had gotten the installation kit, did you use the new engine management computer or did you get a chip/tune made somewhere?

Does it matter what kind of ignition system I have? The car I would like to put this on uses coil on plug ignition.

Thanks in advance for any helpful information you can give.

The FRPP S/C would not come with enough stuff to make it work on a Crown Vic. It's missing a lot of needed items. And there is no way to add an intercooler to it. The power gains would be very limited.

Allen Engine Development (www.allenengine.com) makes a carb approved s/c kit for the Panthers. It comes with absolutely everything you need to install. This includes: injectors, fuel rails, fuel pump, belt, etc. and even comes with a custom computer chip to properly use it. They are an SCT partner as well. AED's kit is well engineered and they have excellent customer support. The price they ask includes everything. For refference, the kits for Maruaders (DOHC) start at twice as much from other vendors.

Running an AED on a SOHC Panther is like having a 5.4L with the weight of a 4.6L It adds +70ft-lb of torque across the entire rpm range

I installed it on my bird and the install kit had everything needed. I did not use the EEC that came with it.....I had the Jman burn me a chip. The one challenge I could see for a vic is that your TB faces toward the drivers side and since the upper plenum on the SVO is part of the casting you would have to change sides.

Forgot to mention. The AED kit can be machined to fit PI heads if you later switch to a PI headed engine. Of course it can be purchased as either a nonPI or PI application.

John the SVO also comes in PI form now....that is what I am running on my explorer motor. By the way kind of OT but did you ever figure out the cold knock you had?

How much boost?

Good price on it though, I remember seeing a bullit intake for 1600.00 at steeda,

The higher charge air temp that you will have with no means to cool it,Will mean a loss in power you couild combat that with more boost
But then you might need to build a bottom end to take a higher boost level.

It is absolutely incorrect to think that "any intercooler is better than no intercooler." ( from a book i have "Maximum Boost")

I'm just running 6 lbs right now and Ive got about 2800 in it with the install kit. I did tap one of the runners and install a Lightning ACT sensor so that the Jman could pull timing and richen the mix as outlet temp increases. I'm real happy; I commute 100 miles a day with it and it's very streetable. My best 1/4 so far in 76* heat is 14.3 with an open 3.08 rear, 4R70W, 3800 lb Tbird. I'm going to install a 3.27 lock and I'm sure with good air it has 13's in it

Thanks for all the responses to my post.

According to Randy in the Ford Parts area, it would appear that the SVO supercharger manifold is on back-order with no release date. Bummer.

JohnE, I am familiar with the AED supercharger kit and may have to consider it again. I don’t have emissions testing here so that plus of the AED kit doesn’t mean much to me. Looks like you have some nice power with yours and its great that they bolt right into the panther chassis.

Timb, I’m glad the SVO supercharger worked out for you but I may have a hard time finding one. I figured that moving my battery to the drivers side along with moving some wiring would be no big deal if I went with the SVO kit. Where could I contact “Jman” about burning a chip. I have heard of the name before but am not sure where he works.

We did one of these on DanU's Tbird. He just had the blower/manifold, nothing else. So I made all the alternator/idler brackets, modified some fuel rails for it, etc. It isn't going to ever make huge power, but it's OK. On Dan's headswapped motor he put down 295RWHP. I think it was something like 238 before the blower went on. This is with the huge pulley that comes in these kits, I would not install any of the smaller ones, this blower already makes more than enough heat.

Golden,

The Jman is the guy who developed the SCT software so any SCT tune is his calibration. If you really want one I got mine just a few months ago and had it at my door in a week. I used Dan Newman at Joe Cooper Ford 800-266-6049

He may have another on hand.

TimB, I'm working on the cold knock noise. I'll report back when I know what's happening and no longer guessing.

Golden, I know of one person who tried the FRPP blower on a crown vic (BillW). It was several years ago. IIRC he made more power with Fox Lake ported PI heads than M112 on stock nonPI. But, there's no doubt the FRPP blower helps get a heavy car moving. Once you get it on, you'll be impressed with the low-end torque, but be dissapointed with the top end.
When my intercooler pump is switched off, the temp climbs to around 180F. The intake gets heat soaked from the heads. This puts it into timing retard and the car is slow and sluggush. Especially in stop and go traffic. Incomming air cools it under continuous use. With intercooling I see ambient +50. I would not be happy with my M90S w/o an intercooler.
