I was going to get a flip chip when this new thing came out. Can we program a flip chip? Can we reflash with some kind of a port in the dash area? Can I buy one and trade in my chip for a flip chip?
The chip package comes with a 4 position flip chip which you can program with the Pro Racer package. You cannot change the chip with the OBDII port. The chip must be removed to be reprogrammed.

does the racer package chip version also have four "flip" positions that can be programmed?

While we're talking about this flip chip and since I've never had a chip in a car before...How does one go about switching from program to program? Is there a switch on the chip? Is it easy to access?

SCT Guy,
How about answering my question also?

I believe it is planned that ALL chip versions have a four(4) position chip.

The second generation chip will have 4 positions, but not initially. It should be less than 6 months for that many positions.

I think there is some confusion on the difference between "4 bank" and "4 program" or "position".
A 4 "bank" chip describes the chip's ability to access and store the full array of data available for modification. One full image would contain 4 banks. In compairison, a single bank chip would not have enough room to store all the data that is desired when tuning. So some sacrifices have to be made. That means some important information may not be available to a 1 bank tuner.
A 4 "program" chip would contain 4 different programs or images. Each image would be a 4 bank image. 4 images x 4 banks = 16 banks total.
4 program 4 bank chips will be a very nice addition. But I feel that the single program 4 bank chip will actually be fine for most situations to start with. Mainly because software will be readily available at different levels including the end user/racer.
Am I even close there SCT Guy? :)

I am very interested in this subject;). I was thinking next time Jerry comes down to San Diego of having a flip chip done. I am taking delivery of a Vortech aftercooler this week (he said I dont need another tune for this right away) but would want one tune to be w/ the ambient temp. water in the aftercooler w/ our crappy 91 octane. And another tune w/ ice in the aftercooler and 103 octane (race mode :headbang: )

OK, then how many positions will the initial chips have?

GO3stang is where I was going. I was going with just race gas or super(93) octane.

hmm 6 months that puts us in april, that should be enough time to get it, install it, get it tuned, just in time for race season.
the flip chip is going to be what us N2O users are going to need. gotta have the nitrous tuning and the NA tuning.
cant wait til this version comes out. what kind of price increas are we looking at???

Another option is buying it now and just using a laptop to change tunes. Then, when the 4 program chip comes out you can upgrade. You will need a new burner and chip. Upgrade should be in the $250-$300 range but don't hold me to that price.

So is it safe to say that the 4 position chip will be about 1K?

I understood that when it came out, it would be standard on all chip versions.???

Right now our plan is to offer a one program chip in the chip version that will ship this week. If you want two files, we will add in another chip for $200. When the multiposition chip becomes available, it will be the standard piece in the chip version. At this time you can trade in your two chips for one of these, or buy the multiposition one and keep them all. We don't have final pricing on the multiposition chip since manufacturing has not yet come back with a quote as to what it will cost.

Since the multi-chip version will soon be available as standard goods in the package will their be the ability to send your current single program chip back in and receive the multi-position for a slight fee? Say $50?

FYI, that price is just a guess. I'm preparing you for the worst. It could be cheaper.
