Is there provisions for the oil level sensor on a Canton Road Race Oil Pan? What do you guys do when swaping to the Canton pan? If you leave the sensor wire disconnected will the low oil light just stay on?

Thanks,
Royce M

Royce, on my Canton pan the low oil sensor hole was on the right side, so we never bothered to hook it up, no problems wth it not being there.

Thats weird. I wonder why canton would put it there. The factory harness connector is routed to connect it to the drivers side. With it disconnected does the light come/stay on?

Thanks,

I've got this problem now. Is there anyone who has connected the oil temp sensor? What did you use to extend the wire to the right side of the pan?

Randy, you said you didn't connect it. Did you cut the wire or did you just zip tie it?

Royce, What did you end up doing?

Ok, I just got off the phone with Canton and I was told that nobody has ever called them about this problem before. That seems pretty strange to me. There is an obvious problem.

The only other wire attached in that bundle goes to the driver's side O2 sensor. Do you think I could pull the wire over to the right side of the pan to attach the sensor and use an O2 wire extender?

Well I just left the sensor off and zip tied the wire. I talked with a few more people and they all did the same also. After thinking about it I never really relied on the sensor for oil level. I always check at the dipstick.

I have never relied on sensors to tell me my oil was low - mine was just disconnected.....(and as I type this and ready roycemek's last post I just got a nice laugh :) )

Yeh I know, I guess that does sound kinda funny. My point there to Snydaleid was that I don't think you really need that sensor. If your oil ever does get that low to where the sensor triggers then you either have a major problem or you haven't been checking your oil in a while.

I can tell you for a fact that Canton knows of the issue. I called them about 3 or so years ago and they told me to just extend the wiring?!? I too just left it off.

your low oil light comes on when you roughly 1 quart low. its not an emergency situation.

we have a low oil light?

I don't see it as an "issue". The port on the Canton pan is not even in the proper location anyway.

If someone is relying on a light to tell them they are low on oil, I think they need to chose a different hobby.

Thanks for the info guys. The way I see it.... It's there, so why not use it? I'll probably end up doing the same thing as you all. At least I know there won't be any problems if I do leave it out.

Because you would have to cut into the Canton pan to make it functional, IMO it's just not worth it....you really don't gain anything. Oil psi is much more important and that is a separate sensor.

BTW, you'll have to double check but I'm not sure if the sensor will even fit. The sensor has a large flange on it and extends a few inches inside the pan. It could interfer with the baffles or not have the correct threads to screw into the hole. Just an FYI.

You know... I was thinking about that. They didn't even put it in the right place. Who's to say it even has the correct thread size? I'll just zip tie it. Thanks again.

The hole in the Canton pan is not for that plug so to say it's in the wrong place isn't right - it's just not for that purpose. That port is for an oil temp sensor or other aftermarket items as such.
