Not to rehash what has probably been discussed before, but is L-MAF upgrade a good route to go for my F-150? Also, can I assume mods suggested for 4.6 T-bird/Mustang are good on F-150?
Thanks

agreed, with both parts of the question.

If you look, your truck already has an 80mm maf... can't say for differences in transfer functions, but don't know what gains you could expect from same size maf!

90mm LMAF would be the gainer.
Not the 80mm
The gains will mostly be noticable when using ported and polished heads, cams,
or a power adder.

I'm thinking we're talking about trucks that weigh about 2 tons... I sure want to keep all my low end torque, even though I have 3.55 gears. Definitely don't want to move my torque curve into upper rpm range! Stick with minor mods like exhaust and fipk or go bigger with roots type blower, but don't open up heads or use large cams... unless your motor is in a lightweght car!
Just my .02

I agree,
We tried one on a freinds 01 F150 5.4 with auto.
3.55 gears
Made no difference at all.
The 2v 5.4 is so weak above 4000 RPM that opening things up doesnt help unless.
Now a 5.4 32valve another story.

Well I built a 5.0 in a 3800lb 93 tbird, could barely break into 14's... would of gone low 13's or hi 12's in proper body, like a mustang!

I appreciate all the comments. And, whoever mentioned torque is exactly right. The whole purpose of this is to improve low-end response. Truck is a brick - what Ford calls SuperCab. I'm not sure of the wheelbase. 4.6 revs quick but seems to run out of steam 5k or so. The 4.6 just needs a little more something off the line and that's what I hope to accomplish. Exhaust mods - X-pipe, duals, etc and LMAF (90mm) with reworked EEC I am guessing will help. Only real cure would be 5.4 32V from Navigator with a supercharger. But, not today.
BTW, just had to replace plug wires after thing picked up an intermittent miss. Dealer originally diagnosed the "shudder" as drive-line vibration and replaced the drive shaft. Fortunately, my extended warranty paid for that. Second trip and making shop foreman drive the truck found the real problem and got it fixed.

The 4.6 is just too small of an engine in that heavy of a vehicle.
Change the gears to a 3.73 or 3.90 and you will never be happier.
On that truck you can drop it off and have the gears changed in an afternoon for about 400.00 bucks or less.
3.55's arent near enough gear for a big heavy monster like that especially with tires that tall.
