Well took the 96 out to the track tonight with the brand new nitto dr's. First two runs I didn't burn out, just went thru the water and dropped the clutch at 3k. That's where I got my best run:
60' 2.070
330' 6.064
MPH: 55.37
1/8: 9.326
MPH: 73.40
I have the following:
96 gt 5spd
catted x-pipe with just magnaflow mufflers welded in
3.73's
Nitto 275/40/17 DR's
Steeda Pulleys
Steeda t/a @ 14*
Why is the mph so low? I dynoed 213rwhp and 279tq. Any tips on these tires? I got the best time at 25psi. I lowered it after that, got 9.40's and 9.50's. Should I just leave it at 25psi cold and burn out for about 5 seconds or just spin thru the water box? I also dropped the clutch at 2800 on that run, I don't slip it.

I would say 13 psi in the tires and launch at 3000 - 3500 and slip the clutch. I had my best results with that. I heated the tires up decently, not too long but a little longer than 5 seconds.

Yeah that sounds really low but what do i know? I heard from somewhere that when you heat Nittos up they get greasy, is that true?

13psi in a 275/40/17 would cup the tires...

No, and you sound like like the dude in Days of Thunder....:D
Everybody says the tires will cup. And I don't say anything. But I spent a lot of time on drag radials and did really well. They won't cup at 13psi. Try it and see.

I agree with Starkie on this, you have no sidewall on a 17" tire anyways so you have to run them a a low PSI to get them to give some and hook. Plus you are not running them for days and days at 13psi just for a few seconds at the track so the cupping shouldn't be to bad if any at all.
Also off to Drag Racing with ya;)

Also just a tip NEVER drive through the water box without doing a burnout that is seriously asking for trouble. Most of us at the shootout Friday night saw what happens when you drive through the water without doing a burnout on a drag type tire and it wasn't pretty. The car had lots of power but fact is any of our cars have the potential of losing control and hitting the wall and I don't think any of us want that.

He just drove through the water and didn't do a burnout??? Yet he has a car with lots of power and doesn't know any better... Sheesh
