I just wanna know if anyone made their own 80mm LMAF before I spend the $39 on the adapter. I am look all over and even at hardware stores in plumming and heating (ducts) but cant find anything. I got close when I saw something that was 4" but I need it in 3" and they didnt have it. Also any places you recomend getting the adapter if I were to spend the money for it?
thanks

are you using your stock airbox? i just bought a piece of vibration hose from turbonetics. you can get it in 3", and its not bad priced. do a search for turbonetics, you may find a place that sells it.

I made my own out of ABS plastic. I went to Lowes and purchased a $10 ABS plastic vacuum hose gate that was intended to cut the sawdust discharge on/off for table saws. You can find it in the power tools section around the larger power tools. I spilt it in half, trimmed it to fit the MAF with a Dremmel tool. You’ll also need some good gasket material to make it a good seal. Then you will need some hose to connect the other end to the stock air box. I wish I had a picture of it but...... though it was functional and not unsightly, it was definitely Ghetto, so, I ditched it for a nice aluminum one from Accufab.

BR,
I saw that when you posted it some time before. That goes over the part with the screws or did you cut that out? I have one that has a sort of squared peice with 4 holes, 1 in each corner for screws or something. I guess I might trim it down and do something like you did. I want a clean look so if I cant trim it clean enough (dont see why I wouldnt be able to) then I'll buy the acufab one. I am currently going to hook it up to the stock air box but eventually I'll probably hook it to a cone filter and airbox. Either way, I have to wait until I get my chip from CustomChip. Anyone here besides me and Justin dealing with them/Joe right now? We have been waiting over 2 1/2 months and havent gotten our chips. We even sent out OWN chips in so I dont know whats up with that. oh well, as long as it has Jerry's calibration its worth the wait.
BR,thanks for the pic and info.

What does a Lightning airbox look like? Does anybody have a pic of one? That might be a nice way to go - esp when it comes time for your smog check. Last time I got the bird inspected, they told me flat out that my sheet metal airbox would be rejected next year. I have an adapter that will enable the t-bird airbox, but I don't wnat to have to switch out every time inspections come around, and I don't want to go back to the panel filter element.

Well dont some cars use a cone filter anyway. If its the heat box they dont like then just take that out for the inspection and leave the filter in. Then when you get home you just through it back on. Or is it the cone filter they dont like? So many people have cone filters, they cant reject you because of that. (can they?)
I am planning something for the cone filter that will look clean and good. I am thinking of taking a bucket of the right size and basicly cutting a third of it off. Then maybe I can rig up a door on top too. When painted and installed it should look sort of factory, I hope. Either way, its something I havent seen (at least something like that, that looks clean) and I figure I will try it. What do I have to loose, a bucket.
also pic of lightning airbox.

Well the Lightning airbox uses a flat filter. The Mustang airbox uses the cone and fits it.
I made my original adapter out of plumbing parts. You can also use a flat plate and screw the cone to it like http://home.flash.net/~rfm2/maffilter.jpg that is a KN Mustang replacement.
Check with Jason Skwarek he had a couple spare adapters at his house.

I am at this same point of looking for a LMAF - Tube adapter and as soon as my turn is up and RichM is ready to ship out my tube, I have access to unlimited time at a machine shop and I am going to be taking a look at possibly machining something out of aluminium block as a solid plate or collar adapter, if anyone would be interested in this as a dressier part, I will see what cost ends up being per unit, and try and come up with a working design once my intake tube and K&N are in front of me.
