What is the lightest wheel that I can get that will:
A. Fit my car.
B. Accept my Brembos in front...
C. Will fit the 275/40/17 Nitto 555 RII
I don't care what they look like, but they have to be stiff, I can't be paying 400 bucks a wheel.
Ideally I'd like the Kosei R1's but can't fins any in that size...
I want to be around the 17 to 22 lb range....
Tire rack says the FR500's are 27 pounds, and the RK's and SSR's are around 17-19 lbs...but are twice the price.
I'm open to anything you can offer...

I'm not Chad or Gene, but take a look at the Steeda Ultralites.
I'm pretty sure that's what Gene runs his for his OT events.
17x9.....like 17 pounds......clears his Wilwoods.
He runs 95 Cobra R's as his "street wheels" as they are one of the other few wheels that'll clear his massive hand-of-God-stopping brakes.
He'll confirm for me I'm sure. ;)

My 95 cobra r's barely clear my brembos.... .040 space...... but the wheels are heavy... I just want to put common street rubber on them and get a new set of race only's with R compounds...

Off Steeda's site...
"Awesome looks. Great handling. Lightweight. Steeda's Ultra-Lite wheels feature a slender-spoke design and use a low pressure casting method for superior strength and lower weight. Our 18" wheels leave plenty of room for oversize brakes, clearing even our monster 14" Brembo brake package. Both sizes are now also available in a mirror-like chrome-plated finish to give your car the ultimate "WOW!" factor. All of our wheels feature the correct backspacing to fit your Mustang properly, call our expert sales team about year specific applications. What else is there to say? Steeda's wheels are sure to get attention wherever you drive."
Sounds as if you'd have no problem at all with the brakes. :dontknow:
I'll search for more info....

I've heard that they are the same exact wheel as the Konig Villian's........which I've read come in about 22 pounds per wheel.
I was thinking they were lighter.:dontknow:
Hope I helped ya a lil.
Matt.

I went to Steeda's site after you mentioned it.
I'm surprized they don't actually post the weight.

I asked Steeda to supply me with the weight of those, and the newer style ones as well. The ones that look like Fittipaldi's

I have one set of 95 Cobra Rs (real ones) and a set of Steeda Ultralights for race tires (Victoracers), and a set of 98 Cobras with street/rain practice tires (Kumho Ecsta MXs).
All clear my 6-piston Wilwoods without a problem, so they should easily clear your Brembos. I use 275/40-17s on the Cobra Rs and the Ultralights, so that's no problem.
I believe the FR500s come only in 18", but I'm not 100% sure.
According to the Official Wheel Weight (http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=586&highlight=wheel+weight) thread, the Steedas weigh 21.5lbs. I'm not sure what the 95 Rs weigh, but my non-calibrated arms say they're slightly heavier than the Ultralights.
I've talked to BBS about getting a set of rims that'll clear my brakes. They can make me a set, but I'm looking about $750 a pop...these are the modular, 3-piece deals...about 14lbs. each. Needless to say, there's other things I can blow my budget on. Bogart can also make wheels that'll fit, about 15lbs, in the $550 a piece range.
Fikse and Kinesis are two other places to consider. I've never talked to them about it, but I know a lot of the Porsche guys run them. Once again, you're looking at serious money.
Unfortunately, it seems that we have either two choices...OEM-type wheels in the 20lb. range, or ultra-light, ultra-expense pure racing wheels.
Chad has the FR500s, but he's off getting married and honeymooning this week...I'm sure he'll respond when he returns.

Fikse's are big cash for FM5's
I'll take a look at Kinesis...
Thanks for the weight link...

I looked at Kinesis.. WAY out of my price range. Same with Fikse.
I couldn't get any sort of pricing on Bogart, but I can't imagine they'd be as expensive as Kinesis or Fikse. Bogart has a road race wheel I like, but I think I'm going to have to call them to see about my particular application...
My other choices for cheaper stuff, is to find a volk of Kosei in the right size.
Thanks for your help folks....I'll post up when I find something.

For light 17's the 95R's and the Steeda's are the norm for those on a budget. There are others but no where near 400/each. Like posted the FR500's are only in 18's.

AWSOME! Maui was the best. I probably won't go back to Oahu just way to crowded. Every day there was something to do, swimming in waterfalls (after an 11 hour road trip in a v6 convertible mustang), snuba diving with turtles, dinner cruse on a boat, great food. Oh and the Lakers were staying at our hotel in Waikiki. Kobe was there but he had to leave early for an 'appointment' (with the judge, lol). I can't wait to go back.
thanks for asking,
