View Full Version : Long tube headers are INSTALLED!

That's right, I just finished tightening up the last bolts on my long tube headers. What a day. I started around 11:00AM basically with the car already jacked up, wheels and brake calipers already removed. I disconnected and removed the steering rack, abs sensors, springs, struts, and lowered the K-member by myself and then changed the headers out. It wasn't too bad. I can't imagine doing this with the K-member still on!!! (even with the motor jacked up)
All in all it's been exhausting, but I know I'm going to have positive results from it all. I can't wait to get the car back down and running. I just have to get the K-member back up. I'll need some help for that. I'm tempted to remove the hubs from the spindles while they're off the car and take them to a machine shop to get my long studs all put in once and for all. I think I should. I guess I'll go a few more days with the car up on jackstands in the garage.
I also need some O2 extenders. Maybe I can get those ordered and sent here (or maybe a local shop carries them in stock). I need the break right now anyway. Guess I'll finish it all up in a day or two. Maybe I'll have it running by Wednesday night for test & tune and I can get some drag strip results, assuming I have no unforeseen problems with the tranny swap and headers.

Sounds like you have a pretty smooth install. Glad to hear it went so well. And yes, I'd take the hubs to a machine shop and get that taken care of so you don't have to disassemble the car again. I'm sure the car will be just fine on jackstands.

Yeah I don't think I have to worry about anyone stealing the car. It's not going anywhere!!! :-p I have it securely kept in my garage with the door down, too, so it won't get attention.
Any idea what size the hub nut is so I can get that off to have it drilled out?

Dave, I can come over tomorrow after work and help you get that bitch back on. I did not find any extenders locally, but Bosch makes O2 with 16 1/2" extension on them (autozone). I don't know if, they'll make it. The best deal for extenders is at need-4-speed.

I'm tempted to just solder in some extra wire. I had good luck with that on my MIL eliminators. I kind of liked the extenders route better though. I wouldn't have to dick around with my O2 sensor wires, cutting them up, and hope they still work.
need-4-speed might be able to get the O2 extenders to me next day.. I'm going to call them tomorrow afternoon. I could have them by Tuesday.

Just leave the hub on the spindle. Clamp the spindle to the press and just turn the hub as you drill each hole. They should center themsleves w/ the bit. At least it did for me...

He had help Friday Night, don't know about Saturday and I went over there today, but his security guard would not let me in :2guns:

Actually I had plenty of help. I had Will and Craig over on Friday night, then Tim came over Saturday afternoon. Then Saturday evening I had Will and Ryan over. Craig stopped back by for a little bit this evening. Gave me some yummy hot wings to munch on. I sold him my old X-pipe since it was already laying right there on the floor. Money + wings!!! YEAH!
Marc tried to come over today and he called me since he was in the area, but I left my phone on the kitchen counter. DOH!! I'm glad he didn't shoot my security guard with his glock.
Everything's all done. K-member is reinstalled (I actually managed to do it on my own). I pulled the hubs off of the spindle. It was no sweat after I put the K-member back on. It uses a 36mm socket.
