My buddy has found a 4v cobra 2001 engine cheap in a crate what we want to know is what would be involved to swap the engine out of his 2002 GT and put in the the 2001 4v???What i also wnat to know is will the rear end stand up to the power increase the tranny and so on we want a reliable swap not something half a***d !!!!!!

Also later on we would probably add a power adder to the set up also !!!! So all input will be great !!!!!!!

Dropping a 99+ 4V into a 99+ GT is simple. Pull 2V. Install 4V. Buy the coolant hoses, tstat and tstat housing for the 4V. Use your 2V harness and modify that. You have to lengthen a couple wires to reach stuff. Use the alt connector off the 4V harness. Custom chip...you're done.

I have the stock rear end and I launch on DRs and no probs. My T45 took a crap after almost a year of abuse and lately powershifting at 7K RPMs...

He just finished his auto to 5spd swap. He also has a 98 which is slightly different than swapping into a 99+

He had just finished before the tranny fiasco.

Swapping between different years presents a few more issues but the basic premise is the same.

There are a few of us here that have done it - Darren, Steeda (Eric), and I have all done it into our cars. Like Darren said there are differences between our cars and his, it is actually easier to do it into a 96-98 car as the harness doesn't have to be modified nearly enough.

The link Darren posted is a great starting place for into - also check out www.fastestmodulars.com

What would be a good place to find a used 96-98 4v stock engine? or used navi engines?

yeah, that would be a good deal but it would be cheaper for me to buy a used one and build it up.

I went to www.car-part.com to get my Navi engine. I found a low miles (24k) engine in Las Vegas. Paid $1800 shipped to MD. When I pulled the valve covers off, everything looked and checked out mint. I also pulled the oil pan to install a windage tray and it looked almost new inside.

There were many more engines that were cheaper.

Mine was done back in May.

I just recently had it dynoed after the tranny swap and found I was missing some serious HP. I'm curently waiting for my chip back from JMS... they are redoing it.

Hopefully this thime every works smoothly. I just want to beat on this thing.

Not trying to take over the thread but has anyone put a mach motor or 99-01 cobra motor in a 96-98 cobra. I've pm'd a couple of you with this same queston.

should be same swap as a 96-98 Gt just a different processor. I put a Avaitor motor into a 96 Gt that was pretty straight forward.
