My car is currently somewhat of a daily driver, about 2300 miles a year put on it:D and i currently have a 3200 stall torque converter it. My question is when i go to the track and am about to launch i can only bring the car up to 2500 before the car wants to spin the wheels, is this normal or no. Also i was wondering if it would benefit me to go up to say like a 4000-4200 stall or something like that, what are your guys ideas.

You need a transbreak if you want to leave the line at maximum stall.

IMO 4000-4200 is to much of a stall if you drive the car on the street. It can be done but it will feal sloppy and you'll need one hell of a cooler.

I wanted a 5200-5400 stall and was talked out of it by PI because I still wanted to keep it streetable. That's why now I'm going with a stick.

Stall should be set to coincide with your power level and curve and how you make your power.

You will not see the full "stall" number on the line when you flash the converter. That rating is when it's fully engaged.

You could try a transbrake. My new transmission has one.

how do the trans brakes work

Essentially, an electro-magnet, I believe. It locks your car between drive and reverse and holds it there. When it's on, you simply put the pedal to the floor and the car holds it position. When the lights drop, you release the button and away you go. They build heat quickly, but they're badass. I'll let you know how mine is as soon as another transmission crate shows up. ;)

thanks for the info flo-bee, who makes a good trans brake and what do they normally run.

I can't say anything but good about Len at Lentech Automatics. I've always dealt with them for our Ford applications, as has my mechanic. I've never heard of anyone dissatisfied. I've toured his shop and it's Grade-A. They dyno test everything in-house on their transmission dyno before it leaves. Sometimes they're a little pricey, but I feel like I get what I pay for. They back up all their work and warranty stuff.

What he's got is a package that consists of a valvebody with a transbrake built into it. You'll probably have to drill a small hole in the transmission case to feed in a power wire, but I've read the instructions in the manual and it looks like a cake job. (Mine came as a whole unit on this tranny, so it was already done for me. We've swapped valvebodies before, though, and it's cake.)

I suggest giving them a call and talking to them about your application. If you're on a PI converter, you can have it re-stalled. If you talk it all over with the guys up there, they'll help you decide how to set your transmission up. Just mention that you'd like to know if they think chaning stalls and maybe using their valvebody/brake setup would help, and they'll give you details. Tell 'em I sent ya.

Transbrakes are fun... I had one installed on my car before I started taking it apart for a 5-speed. It takes off like nobody's business esp. with drag suspension. :)

Just be sure to get a good cooler.
