While I was at BG, I saw a bunch of different K members for our cars offered on the midway. I thought they'd all basically be the same, but after reading some of the ads, I see that some brands lenghten the wheelbase, I think MM says 3/4" and someone else's ad lists 1." Is this slight increase in WB something desirable? What effect does this have? :dontknow:

Any recommendations?
Thanks, Chris

I'm very happy with fit and finish of UPR's!

Desirable as in look at the top fuel cars with the long wheelbases. Great for the strip, but to me having the tires maybe rub and look gay on the street would make me want to buy a K member with the stock WB. Just my opinion.

MM and Griggs both have the extended WBs, but considering those are RR/AX units, that's monstly beneficial in handling...

The reason the MM and Griggs K-members increase the wheelbase is to help out the balance of the car. Moving the wheels forwards takes helps to move the balance of the car rearward (our cars are very front heavy, and that hurts handling). The difference is barely noticeable as far as appearance. The MM and Griggs K-members also change the geometry of the front suspension and mounting locations for the steering rack.

Another thing to consider in K-members is clearance for things like header clearance, filter clearance, etc. D&D, for example, are notorious for poor header clearance.

What are you buidling your car for? That's the most important consideration as far a choosing K-members. Are you planning on going to coil-overs?

I have this QA1 Kmember sitting next to me right now. If I ever get it on I will tell you how I like it.

I am trying to work a deal on some a arms right now to get this project going:stickpoke ;)

Starkie - That's what I thought too. Moving the wheels 1" didn't sound too appealing to me. Top fuel? Not this car.

Gene - The car is not my daily driver, so I'm planning what most everyone else does, some occasional trips to the track with some street driving thrown in. I've read that a K member can lighten the front end, how a K member also improves the installation of headers and since I'm going to rebuild the front end this winter anyway, I was thinking this might be the best time to do this too. I should probably also add that my car's a convertible if that makes a difference. I also thought coil overs were required

Thanks for the replys

If you get aftermarket a arms you will need coil overs. Some kmembers can be used w/ stock a arms and springs.

Do K members drop the motor at all?

The QA1 unit didn't drop the motor any.

I prefer the PA Racing K member. That's why we sell it. Top notch quality. Best fit of any k member in my opinion.

I have the AJE K-member and love it. I also have the tubular control arms with the spring buckets so I do not have coilovers.

Top notch fit and finish. I have installed D&D and GROUND POUNDER K members. Of the 2 ground pounders 1 had to be removed because it did not fit at all. The other breaks the welds at the motor mounts about every 2 months. The D&D is a nice one but it does not fit Bassani Headers.
