Got in the Mark today to go to lunch. Temp outside is about 75, hotter inside the black car. I keep the controls set on auto, so the a/c should have been blasting old air when set at 60. No cold air, just hot air. It doesnt change no matter what temp i set it at, always the same temp blowing. I can hear the compressor kick on and off when i go from max a/c to off. Is this the famous blend door problem? How do I fix it? Is there an article somewhere?
Thanks. Phil

Does the AC compressor seem to kick off and on frenqently when you run it? I'd check the system charge and make sure you have enough R134 in it.

Start with the self test

Hit OFF+FLOOR together, then AUTO.
It goes blank, then runs an electrical self-test, operating the plenum doors, etc and blower motor. "888" is "OK", I forgot what else everything was (111, 222, 333, etc.).
(got the instructions from VISS off the LOD)

01 means damaged control assy
02 means AC Air Temp door can not reach desired position or AC Electronic door wiring damanged
03 means Automatic temp control sensor open
04 AC ambient air temp sensor and bracket
05 AC Sunload sensor short

No idea exactly what to do with those - 02 or 03 sounds like it could be the blend door, but I just took this straight from my 95 HELM Manual, pg 12-03a-18

Ok, did the test. Came back with 888 no errors. So, I guess it's the actuator lever for the blend door. Is it possible to check this without pulling the dash out? Can it be reached(i knmow not replaced) by going thru the glovebox?
If by chance it is not the lever, what next?
Thankls, Phil

I'm sorry - I should have the whole procedure in here:

NOTE:
The in-vehicle temperature should be greater than 10°C (50°F) for all DTCs shown to be valid.

l The control assembly will detect electrical concerns occurring during the On-Board Diagnostic.

l Ensure that the engine is warm, at least 120°F coolant temperature.

l To display the DTCs, initiate the On-Board Diagnostic by pushing OFF and FLOOR simultaneously and then AUTOMATIC within two seconds. The test may run as long as 30 seconds, during which time the display will be blank. If the display is blank for more than 30 seconds, go to System Diagnosis When On-Board Diagnostic Indicates No Errors Found.

l The On-Board Diagnostic Test can be initiated at any time with the resulting DTCs being displayed. Normal operation of the system stops when On-Board Diagnostic is activated. To exit the On-Board Diagnostic and restart the system, push the BLUE button. The On-Board Diagnostic should be deactivated before powering the system down. Refer to the «Symptom Chart» for an explanation of DTCs.
