I am going to tell you a short story, but not offer any advice. In my asc/McLaren Mustang Club & International Registry (http://yahoo.com/group/GROUPSascmclaren) we have very unusual convertible tops with a 3 window rear design, like a Mercedes Convertible. There is one man in Florida, who purchased ALL the remaining inventory of the manufacture of these cars. Naturally, since the man has the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) tops, he want top dollar, usually $900.00 per top. Those who have purchased them, have had no trouble what so ever.
Enter the aftermarket......There are 2 or 3 sources, that have begun making these tops, due to demand, now that the cars are 14 years old. The aftermarket is getting $500.00 @ top. Now, the horror stories have begun. Firstly, the stitching is different than original, secondly the seem-folds are different than original, thirdly while black is black, the other colors are a shade or two different than the original, and lastly the material (IN SOME CASES - NOT ALL) has experienced shrinkage, due to getting wet, and being in the sun, and now no longer fits well.
My advice? I know nobody else will agree, but if you want the best and the highest odds of no problems, I'd order the top OEM from your hometown Ford Dealer, and take the thing when it comes in (folded in a box) to the most relieable well known roof installer around. Go & visit with them and talk with them and see what gut feeling you get. Ask questions, see if they give you the time, see how they feel about your car, ask for referrals, ask to see a completed job. All this lets them know that you are FUSSY, caring and the car MEANS SOMETHING to you!! Be particular. This is my best advice. Putting on a top is HARD WORK, not's kid's play, it takes a couple of installers working together. Good Luck! <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

I might comment that you may also find the same parts at quality prices by talking to one of the online ford parts sources, like Torrie at fordpartsnetwork.com

Yes, I agree! Torrie is very particular about OEM quality & correctness. He's a good person to speak with!

Adam, the reason you can't find anything is because this a a very difficult job to do AND GET CORRECT. This is one of those jobs better left to the real pros. Really, i would not lie 2 U !
