Particularly when on a motorcycle.
I conducted an ad hoc experiment today.
I went for a ride for the first time in about 2 months, my knee feeling pretty good these days. I decided to try a really tame road, not anything agressively twisty or populated.
Rounded a corner on the way to my ride, a corner I have ridden more than a few times and driven a lot more.....
came up to the turn and couldn't slow down.
got into the turn, leaned over, and was headed towards the outside. My momentum was huge....
I killed the engine, but had too much momentum to stop.
went off into the grass and the rear end came around. I tried to drop the bike but it wouldn't go down, so I stood up trying to get it to stop sliding and go straigh.
That didn't happen.....
I slid sideways into a barbed wire fence at about 35. Drug along the fence for about 20 yards and finally fell over into the grass.
It sounds worse than it was. I scratched the heck out of my bike, and tore up my jeans and my jacket (thank god for kevlar sleeves! had I had kevlar in my pants I would have got off scot free!)
so, I need a new jacket and a lot of paint.... oh, and a bunch of bandages.
So, I learned that barbed wire fences are bad.
They are quite abrasive.
My advice? Kids, don't try this at home....
