Is it even possible to do the J-mod with the tranny in my car in the driveway? I haven't crawled under there to look at clearances, but it sounds like it isn't.

I'm pretty sure you could, if you had some good ramps to drive up on.

If you look at the article written by a-train at Tccoa (the shift improver mod), it looks like the pictures are taken from his driveway.

The first Car I had it done to I chickened out and rolled in my buddies shop and paid. It was two hours of labor, so about $150 labor. I had the newer trans pan put in as well as the 1-2 accumulator/springs, and the 2-3 accumulator and springs. That was on my Mark VIII. I didn't drill out the seperator plate, although I wish i had. The car shift so perfectly now, it's an unbelievable diffrence. It's not rough at low throttle, but at WOT there's a nice chirp

I helped out with my Super Coupe since the engine was already out for a swap. We didn't do the 2-3 accumulator just because I don't plan on keeping that car forever. It was super easy to do the mods. (especially since the engine was already out and the fluids were changed).

I woulnd't be afraid to do the next one alone in my driveway. It seemed scary because I have never done anything to a transmission before, but the actual process was fairly simple. Plus if you get in a bind you can always log on and ask the pros

I did mine in the driveway. I drove it up the ramps and then floorjacked the car as high as I could and dropped it on some jackstands. once you get the valvebody off, you are doing all the precision stuff on your workbench.

Nevermind, I figured it out, I am an idiot....

What I was really asking about wasn't drilling the throttle plate, well, I was, but that's not what I meant.

I should have said tail shaft mod. Can I get another round of opinions, please?

Sorry,

When I mod mine over a year ago, I bought the Baumann kit. I then compared Jerry's mods to Baumann Mods. I also had the tranny manual that Jerry mentioned. Now I had three pictures of the valve plate plus my actual valve plate. Guess what, none of them matched. For the most part I could determine the differences. Baumann and Jerry were either identical or very close for most of the holes. I don't think Jerry was selling his plate back then. If he was it wasn't known on LOD. Today, I would just buy Jerry's predrilled plate. Other than this the whole job was a piece of cake. Although I have done everything else on a car, I had never opened an auto tranny(I haven't owned many either).
