Anyone have any special tricks on how to separate motor from trans. I'm in the middle of an engine swap and I'm having a little trouble separating the motor from the transmission.I can see the dowels and the flywheel, but it seems to be bound up. I have the engine mounts unbolted, the tranny bolts, and starter are out as well as are wiring harnesses. Should I be looking for anything in particular?:dontknow:

I am assuming the driveshaft is still in the car and the trans is still bolted to the transmount. It makes it more difficult to wiggle the whole motor to get it off. Easier to take the trans off the engine first. Usually just tilt the engine back a little to get the room in the engine tunnel to wiggle the trans off.

Does it look like the motor is pivoting on a single point? If so you may have missed a bolt?
I would double check that first. If you're 100% positive that all the bolts are out you can use a large screwdriver to pry the tranny away from the motor. Just slide it between the two and CAREFULLY pry with a back and forth motion. This should seperate it enough that the motor will move forward. Odviously the inupt shaft from the tranny needs to clear the pressure plate.

you are correct in that assumption, yeah she's bit tough to wiggle
And TJM01, I will give it another once over
thnx for the input guys, my buddy says a little binding is normal I'm just trying to keep this from becoming a more expensive eventure then it has to be.

i believe when i put my torque converter in my car that thier are 7 bolts that connect the trans to the motor, 2 on the very top, 2 on the sides and 3 toward the bottom. We were trying to pry it apart for about an hour until i found the one bolt we missed right above the starter very hard to see.
hope this helps

Pull the motor out w/ the trans. You'll thank me when you go to put it back together;)

We always just yank the transmission out before we pull motors.
