This was not your typical PINKS episode. This was the culmination of an inspiring outpouring of support for one of our local heroes. That hero was Vinny "Vinny5oh" Changet. Vinny founded Stangbangerz.com for the local Mustang crowd in Cincinnati and passed away all too soon in 2007. Stangbangerz started as a hang out for a few friends but quickly became the place to be in Cincinnati because of the way Vinny treated people. He was one of the nicest guys I've met and would do whatever he could do to help a brother out. This night was for Vinny.

continued from above....

In 2007, Kelly Shotwell had the idea to build a car in Vinny's honor and race it on PINKS. He enlisted a bunch of guys to help do the wrenching and many businesses to provide the parts and money to build the car. It was a mad sprint to get the car done. I tuned it on a Saturday, the weekend before the race. That day at the track, it never made a full pass. Never a group to quit, some tweaks were made, another few test hits at a rented track during a last minute session and they were off to Kansas City. Considering the car had only made a couple of passes ever, things looked a bit rough.

Maybe it was luck, maybe it was perseverence or maybe Vinny had something to do with it, but the SBZ crew pulled off the win with Matt Johnson behind the wheel. It wasn't an easy task, losing the rear brakes early on and then one front caliper locking up on the final pass. Hats off to all the companies that contributed parts and money, but a bigger hats off to the guys who built the car, put in the time and made it all happen. The episode is airing now on Speed. It was the premiere episode of the 2008 season.

Great job guys!!! I had the pleasure of seeing the car you won put together here locally. In this land of Chevy lovers it was great to see a Ford come through with the win in KC. I also am glad to see that the car that was built for a great purpose took the win over a bunch of cocky punks that think they can throw anything together for a great race. Hats off!!!
