Victor Downs, Modular Depot sponsored NMRA Pure Street racer, became the first Modular powered car to win the category. It's been a long time coming starting with the first 10-second modular pass in 2005. Victor had a very consistent weekend qualifying #2 with a best pass of 10.34@132, just .001 out of the #1 spot. Victor had victories over Jon Green, Teddy Weaver and Jimmy Wilson (points leader) on his way to the win, where he ran a 10.42 to Jimmy's 10.45.

By the end of the day Saturday, things were looking good in the Modular Depot pits. Steve Gifford was sitting in the #2 spot in Factory Stock with an 11.49 right behind Jeff Schmell's 11.47. Victor was just .001 behind #1 Brad Meadows 10.34 in Pure Street. And Derek Kernodle cut yet another .000 light in Modular Muscle to take the top spot.
click below for more...

continued from above

On Sunday things continued to go right. First round Farmer Steve found some traction that kept him on a rail all day. The Farmer took out Eric Holiday [11.64 vs. 12.01], Alan Cann [11.41 vs. 12.14] and Jonathon Paulk [11.44 vs. 11.62] en route to a final round appearance against #1 qualifier Jeff Schmell. In a tight race, Schmell took Gifford out with a 11.42 to Steve's 11.45. The good news is the 11.41 in the second round was good enough for a new World Record.

Derek was having some tranny issues on Saturday and never quite got his good qualifying hit in, which made it tough to hit the number on Sunday. Having a bye first round, he was able to run it out to get a feel for the car running a 12.33 on his 12.48 dial. Adding some weight didn't quite do the job with a 12.43 breakout on the 12.48 dial in the second round.

Video the Pure Street Final

Video of Steve Gifford's record pass

Congrats to all of the MD Team! Derek cut a .000 light? I thought his best qualifier was a .005? Either way...great job!

Thanks. This is actually the news story for last year at Atco, lol. I'm switching over to using VB for the homepage news story so we can post them more easily.
